Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an overuse condition of the plantar fascia or arch tendon of the foot. The Plantar Fascia runs from under the heel to the front of the foot. It is a tough fibrous band and its function is to maintain the foot arch.


Causes


Low arches/flat feet (pronation of the foot)  High arches
Tight calf muscles               
 

Signs & Symptoms


Gradual onset of pain on inside portion of heel and sole of foot.          
Pain worse in the morning and at the beginning of exercise, which reduces with activity.
Pain after being on feet for prolonged periods.

Treatment


Avoidance of aggravating activities.
Ice after activity.
Stretching of the plantar fascia, gastocnemius and soleus.
Taping to support the arch.
Assessment and correction of any underlying biomechanical faults.
Advised to see your physiotherapist for further information.
