SPORTS INJURY UPDATE – PATELLOFEMORAL PAIN
Patellofemoral syndrome describes the pain in and around the knee cap (patella) which is associated with damage or inflammation to structures of the patellofemoral joint. It is usually the result of the knee cap not tracking smoothly, which can be caused by many factors such as abnormal biomechanics and/or overactive or weakness of key hip and/or knee muscles. Physiotherapy treatment includes identifying and correcting biomechanical issues, patella taping, strengthening underactive muscles and/or lengthening overactive tight tissues.
